Working Principle

Red/near-infrared light can stimulate complex IV (cytochrome c oxidase) of the mitochondrial respiratory chain and increase ATP (adenosine triphosphate) synthesis. Furthermore, absorption of light energy by ion channels leads to the release of Ca2+, activating transcription factors and gene expression.
